The critical role of compressed air in construction & mining operations
No other industry places compressed air equipment under greater physical stress than construction and mining. Compressors operate in open-pit mines at altitude, in underground tunnels with no ventilation, on remote civil infrastructure projects hundreds of kilometres from the nearest service centre, and in arctic conditions where conventional lubrication systems fail. In this environment, reliability is not a feature — it is a survival requirement for the entire operation.
Our construction and mining compressor range is engineered from the ground up for site conditions that would destroy standard industrial equipment. Heavy-duty chassis, contamination-tolerant air ends, extreme temperature packages, and rapid service intervals keep our machines producing at full capacity shift after shift, regardless of what the site throws at them.
Rock Drilling & Percussive Tools
Pneumatic rock drills — including top-hammer drills, down-the-hole (DTH) hammers, and jackleg drills — are the primary application driving compressed air demand on both surface and underground mining sites. DTH drilling for blast hole preparation in open-pit hard rock mines typically requires air at 10–30 bar and flow rates of 10–60 m³/min per drill rig. Our high-pressure portable and skid-mounted compressors are designed specifically for DTH drilling, with direct-coupled air ends, robust separator systems to handle rock dust ingestion, and high ambient temperature packages for desert and tropical site conditions.
Tunnel Construction & Underground Mining
Tunnel boring machine (TBM) operations, drill-and-blast tunnelling, and underground mine development all require compressed air for rock drills, scaling bars, ventilation fans, shotcrete spraying, water pumping, and personnel infrastructure. Underground compressor installations face unique challenges: high ambient temperatures from rock heat flux, limited maintenance access, and the requirement for continuous operation across multiple shifts without stopping. Our containerised underground compressor stations are purpose-built for permanent underground installation, with water-cooled after-cooling, remote monitoring via SCADA, and modular servicing for confined-space access.
Pneumatic Breakers & Demolition
Road breaking, concrete demolition, pile driving, and utility excavation across construction sites worldwide rely on pneumatic breakers, clay spades, and chipping hammers powered by portable diesel or electric compressors. Our towable compressors in the 7–14 bar range deliver the tool pressure and flow rates needed to power multiple breakers simultaneously, with silenced canopies meeting urban noise regulations and tier 4 / Stage V diesel engines complying with the latest emissions standards for city centre construction projects.
Surface Blasting & Drill Pattern Preparation
Quarrying, open-pit metal mining, and civil rock excavation all require systematic drill pattern preparation ahead of bulk blasting. High-pressure rotary drill rigs and DTH rigs require compressor output pressures of 17–35 bar delivered continuously across multiple-hour drill shifts. Our large-output high-pressure portable compressors — available as diesel-powered towable units or fixed skid packages for permanent quarry installations — provide the flow rates and pressures required for efficient large-diameter blast hole drilling, with service intervals of up to 500 hours to minimise production stoppages.
Dewatering & Mine Drainage
Underground mines and deep excavations continuously accumulate groundwater that must be removed to maintain safe working conditions and protect equipment. Air-operated diaphragm pumps and air-lift pumping systems are widely used for mine dewatering in applications where electrical submersible pumps cannot be safely deployed — such as highly flammable or electrically hazardous zones. Our compressed air systems power dewatering operations reliably across deep shaft mines and civil construction projects, with N+1 redundancy configurations ensuring continuous pumping even during compressor servicing.
Sandblasting, Shotcrete & Surface Preparation
Tunnel lining shotcrete application, structural concrete surface preparation, steel structure sandblasting, and protective coating application on bridges, tunnels, and industrial structures all require large-volume compressed air at 5–10 bar. Shotcrete spraying for tunnel support immediately after excavation is a time-critical operation — any compressor failure delays ground support installation and creates a serious geotechnical safety risk. Our high-volume compressors for shotcrete applications include automatic load-sharing controls when multiple units operate in parallel, ensuring consistent supply pressure regardless of variable shotcrete demand cycles.

Types and selection of compressors in construction & mining
Matching the right compressor technology, mobility format, and pressure rating to each site application is critical for productivity, fuel economy, and equipment service life in demanding field conditions.
Portable Diesel Towable Compressors
The backbone of construction site compressed air. Single-axle and tandem-axle towable compressors from 3 to 25 m³/min at 7–14 bar for pneumatic tools, breakers, and general site applications. Silenced canopies meeting 70 dB(A) noise limits, Tier 4 Final / Stage V diesel engines, and cold-start packages for operation down to −20°C. Our range includes multi-pressure models switchable between 7 and 10 bar for maximum tool versatility.
High-Pressure DTH Drilling Compressors
Purpose-built for down-the-hole hammer drilling in open-pit mining, quarrying, and water well drilling. Available from 17 to 35 bar at flow rates up to 60 m³/min. Heavy-duty oil-injected rotary screw air ends with oversized separator systems to handle rock dust ingestion without element damage. Diesel engine driven with direct coupling, no gearbox — minimising mechanical complexity and maximising uptime in remote site conditions.
Underground Compressor Stations
For permanent underground mine and tunnel installations where continuous multi-shift operation is required. Electrically driven oil-injected screw compressors mounted in purpose-built underground-rated containers with water-cooled heat rejection, explosion-proof electrical classification where required, remote SCADA monitoring, and modular design for transport through mine decline shafts and adit openings. Available in N+1 redundancy configurations for critical underground.
High-Volume Low-Pressure Compressors
For shotcrete spraying, sandblasting, pneumatic conveying of cement and dry mix materials, and large-volume general construction site air supply. Screw compressors in the 5–10 bar range delivering 20–100 m³/min for multi-tool site rings and concrete spraying operations. Automatic load-sharing controls for parallel operation of multiple units, with low-temperature packages for arctic construction projects and high-ambient kits for tropical and desert environments.
